In his speech at the ceremony, Sezer emphasized that the peaceful, friendly, democracy-lover, humanitarian character of Ecevit would set an example not only for Turkey but for the whole world. Zeki Sezer said, “Ecevit layed in prison for many years not to compromise from democracy. He never gave up his struggle for democracy for the Turkish people, including the 1980 army de coup, where he tried so hard not to have his party closed. In the integrity of his peaceful character, he did not hesitate to conduct a military operation to Cyprus to protect the Turkish community living on the island and called this war a Peace Operation. It is for these reasons that Ecevit’s ideas will keep illuminating the path of Atatürk’s ideals.”
Sezer later attended the march organized by the Republican People’s Party district organisation, in commemoration of journalist Uğur Mumcu who was assassinated in 1993. Zeki Sezer and about 500 Didim folk marched for almost a kilometre carrying the photos of Uğur Mumcu and other terror victims. The commemoration ceremony ended with the speeches delivered at the Uğur Mumcu Park on the road to Akbük.
Chairman of Democratic Left Party left Didim at 13:00.
